The architecture of this R&D centre has a strong emphasis on functionality and scalability. Strong definitions of space and form dominate the design approach, which incorporates the dictates of best practices for laboratory facilities. The layout is based on best practices of personnel and material movement and international safety standards.
The exterior, based on contemporary notions of composition, forms simple geometric lines and a balance between solids and voids. Treated with plastered and painted wall surfaces, energy efficient glazing has been used sparingly on facades. The interior spaces are vibrant and strongly visual, creating an air of dynamism unlike R&D centres of old. Extensive use of glass on the inside allows for greater transparency and adds scale to space within.
